Nancy Wilson, a jazz performer and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on the 20th of February, 1937. She was married to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who had been employed for a considerable time as a housekeeper. Nancy was the eldest of six children. The passion for music that her father had as well as the music he played at home had a major influence on Nancy when she was a little girl. As young as four, Nancy knew her destiny was to be a performer. She was able to develop her talents when she sang in the church choir. At the age of 15 and had a chance to win the talent show on T.V. and began appearing on the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while at the time she was still in high school. In the same year, she began to perform at night clubs. After graduating from high school aged 17 Nancy was enrolled for a semester at the Ohio's Central State College now Central State University prior to going on to become an accomplished singer. In 1956 she released her first album as part of Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band with whom she toured from 1956 until 1958. Nancy's very first Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Big Band of Carolyn Club. Cannonball adderley advised her to go into New York in order to increase her fame. The city she went to was The Big Town, New York in 1959. In just a few months, she was offered a job singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx where Adderley's agent heard her voice and agreed to sign her. Her debut on the recording stage came in 1960 with one single following an agreement with Capitol records. Guess whom I saw this morning. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. Initially focusing on rhythm and blues under Adderley's influence, she began to move away from R&B and began to embrace music from jazz and torch. Their collaboration in 1962 with Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley led her to fame as she released her biggest hit Tell Me the Truth in 1963. This brought her a gig in New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America the following year and she was a household name.
